| When our 15 charter members rst met back in 1965 it would have been hard for them to imagine the tremendous success that the Club has enjoyed. Their vision to aid and assist those in need has inspired not only the many Club members who have followed in their steps, but also an entire community of concerned citizens who have responded positively and generously to the works of the Canadian Progress Club - Halifax. The results speak for themselves. Today, the King's Meadow Home in Windsor is a healthy, warm, family environment dedicated to providing a valuable living experience to Nova Scotia's mentally disabled young adults. Among the many projects that we are most proud of is the Progress Centre for Early Intervention. Since 1985, funds raised at our annual events help defray operational costs of these important facilities. There have been countless other worthy causes too, both large and small but none diminutive in its importance. For example, the Canadian Progress Club - Halifax played an instrumental role in the development of Nova Scotia's Special Olympics Program so that Nova Scotia's Special Athletes could compete with Canada's best. In 1980, the Club was able to enter into a ve year, $50,000 commitment to the Izaak Walton Killam Hospital for Children. When Nova Scotia's Friends of Schizophrenics were in jeopardy of having to close their oces because they didn't have enough money to pay the rent, we were able to step in and help out. However, all of these projects and hundreds more would not be possible without the generousity of citizens like yourself. | It is, in fact, your participation at our events that enables our Club to continue to support the King's Meadow Home and The Progress Centre. Over the years, our Events have raised more that $2,000,000 for the capital needs. To carry out a wide range of other community charitable endeavours, Club members also host a Pro/Am Charity Golf Tournament at Brightwood Golf and Country Club. These funds have also enabled the Club to provide a variety of recreational and entertainment outings for residents and families. Each year, thanks to your generousity, the Club is able to host Christmas parties, bowling parties and bring Kingsmeadow residents to Halifax to attend Moosehead hockey games. In 2005, the Canadian Progress Club - Halifax celebrated its 40th Anniversary and we are positioned for another great 40 years in Halifax! We have been blessed with overwhelming public response and support for all of our activities and projects. In turn, we have been able to aid and assist those in need in ways that would have been only the distant hopes and dreams of our 15 charter members in 1965. For them and for the hundreds of Nova Scotian's who have beneted from your generousity, the Canadian Progress Club - Halifax THANKS YOU! |
